Kenai

My Costco hiking shoe has developed a problem. It is difficult to look cool while wearing this but I'm up to the task.

Porcupine snacking

Denali N.P. has only one long road into it and two main ranger stations. At the closer ranger station [Eliason] it has a large viewing window to see Mt. McKinley about 26 miles away, however it is often very overcast and not often seen.
So the window has this feature. If you go to the point on the floor where your height is marked and look out the window here is the outline of the highest mountiain peak in North America that you are NOT seeing.

Potter Marsh boardwalks, it is outside Anchorage

Kenai Lake

My favorite sign.
Kalifornsky Beach???
the Beach is along the Cook Inlet
No Californian will be confused.
However the next is a classic - Ole Timer Way
goes to the Kasilof city cemetery!

Cook Inlet near Anchor Point

The Cook Inlet has huge tides, hence the very long connector from the dock to the floating moorings. The water is beautiful

Cook Inlet near Homer, which is as far west as the road goes

Momma and baby

Wolf chow
They turn white in winter

This is a site unique to Alaska, I've never seen them anywhere else and here they are very common.
It must be a weight and aerodynamic sacrifice but you can land where nothing else can.
They also have a large number of small planes with a tail wheel rather than the three point forward configuration most commonly used.
With large tires those tail draggers can handle rough land places better.

Varied Thrush - I love their calls

Bedding plants at Home Depot in Kenai

Lana could use some of these

Soldotna
a funny coincidence

Fuller Lake which is in alpine country. Beaver lodges on the opposite side.
The water is icy cold and clear

Trail side flowers
Yeah, I like it there.
